We built a bench.  We walked to Home Depot (2 miles?), bought a piece of plywood mostly precut for us, 2 pieces of wood 11 feet long, a power drill, a jigsaw, screws, and a hand cart (with which to walk these materials back up the hill!) and proceeded to fill our suite with sawdust and other such grossness.  Surprisingly enough, it actually holds 3 people without creaking.  Not quite done though… still needs to be painted or veneered, but at least it works!
